Recession and Inflation To Worsen for U.S (12 Apr 2008)
Many U.S. economists are convinced that a recession is inevitable, as the mortgage crisis is FAR from having peaked. In fact, it is still in its infancy. And in this interview, Jim Rogers, the CEO of Rogers Holdings, explains how current government policies will cause even greater inflation and a massive recession.

If you have a mountain of debt piling up and are seeking options to reduce that mountain to a hill, there are a few that you may find appealing. A number of organizations can plan, manage, and work with you to overcome debt. Some of the methods that these organizations use include the following.
Debt Counseling
A debt counseling agency will analyze all your existing debt. Some of that debt may be as seemingly insignificant as a cash advance loan. But it is debt nonetheless. Other financial obligations are very large, such as a mortgage loan.
The main purpose of the consultation is to sort out existing loans, their interest charges, and develop along with you a strategy to pay them back.
Companies such as Consumer Credit Counseling Service (CCCS) provide […]

Free Coffee and Shabu Shabu in Japan

Saturday, May 31st, 2008

This is part of the series on Saturdays where I share videos I took during my honeymoon! Check out the video tag page for more videos!
This Saturday, I want to show you a video of us finally arriving in Japan. During our wait for the bus to our hotel, my wife managed to find some free ice cubes and made a good iced coffee for me! (Talk about being frugal!!!) Then we went to have Shabu shabu for dinner and it was simply amazing. I’m not sure why but I just love Shabu Shabu when the beef is good quality. The meat seems to melt in your mouth and it tastes soooo good.

Save money shopping online

Friday, May 30th, 2008

I just found out about a couple cool tools to make some cash when shopping online. The first of which is Ebates. I will write about the other one soon.
Basically, merchants pay Ebates to refer customers to them. Ebates then pays a chunk of that back to the shoppers themselves. Win, win, win.
Here is how Ebates describes the process:

A few things worth mentioning about Ebates

The payout percentages vary from 1% to about 25%
They have a ton of merchants - many well known stores: Best Buy, Walmart, Staples, and really about anything you can imagine
Some merchants offer cash bonuses for signing up
Ebates also offers referral bonuses for friends that sign up
Payment options include Paypal or a paper check
They also have a toolbar that will tell you if you are on a site that offers a cashback bonus

I recently signed up for Ebates and am planning to add them to my online […]

How Van Leasing Can Help Customers Save Fuel Prices In The Uk

Friday, May 30th, 2008

Truck drivers in the UK have staged a protest at the rising cost of diesel fuel, at the same time as speculation mounted about a government rethink on road tax for older vehicles.
Hundreds of HGV drivers protested in London and a two-mile line of lorries crawled along the M4 towards Cardiff. To put this into context two miles of lorries amounts to around 400 lorries.
Haulage companies and owner operators say that diesel prices topping 130p a litre, plus the planned 2p fuel tax rise, will drive companies and owner operators out of business. In some areas diesel is closer to £1.40 a litre.
Meanwhile, government ministers said Alistair Darling was “listening” to fears over plans to raise vehicle excise duty. Well Darling the British public are approaching the point of revolt over fuel costs and yet all the UK Government can do is “listen” and state that they “understand”. Today […]

Closed SPY Calls

Friday, May 30th, 2008

Last Friday I bought a couple of calls on the S&P 500 ETF, SPY.  SPY is having a very hard time crossing its 10 and 20 day moving averages and staying above it.  It made it above both lines yesterday and today, but both days fell back below it.  Around my lunch break, while SPY was trading at 140.35, I sold both of my call options on SPY and paid $258.50 with commissions.  That gave me a profit of $57.01 for the past week.  That’s a 28% return in one week.  Too bad I only went in with $200.
I’m going to continue to watch SPY and will trade it more often if possible when I see good opportunities like last Friday.  For now, I think the risk to the downside is closer to even with the potential upswing for a near term option.  When I see the risk/reward more lopsided again, […]

Paying Credit Card Interest Is Like Throwing Cash Into the Fire

Friday, May 30th, 2008

This is a guest post from Tisha Kulak, a writer who writes about credit card offers, personal finances and credit card matters.
Credit card interest can be a financial killer if you are not handling your credit cards correctly. If you are only paying the minimum amount of money on your cards each month, you are setting yourself up for a large financial downfall. Imagine you carry a balance of $5,000 in credit card debt with an average interest rate of 16%, it would take you at least 12 years to pay off the balance. The balance would increase about $2,500 with interest fees, leaving you with a total bill of $7,500.
$2,500 could afford you many other things in life. That amount of money would pay for home repairs, a nice vacation, or an excellent deposit into a savings or retirement account. Paying that amount of money as an interest payment […]

The True Cost Of Inflation Is Causing Brits To Struggle

Friday, May 30th, 2008

Rising living costs are increasingly burning a hole in consumers’ pockets and purses, it has been suggested.
In research carried out by the Motley Fool as part of its bi-annual inflation study it was revealed that increases in the cost of living for “real people” are surging at an annual rate of eight per cent. Such a figure, the firm pointed out, is significantly behind data released by the Office for National Statistics which reported that the consumer price index (CPI) is currently at three per cent. This actually means a rise from the 2.5 per cent recorded in April. It was stated that the drive in the CPI - which the government uses to adjust wages - was due to increases in energy costs such as gas, electricity and heating oil.

Because of the variation in the CPI and the Fool’s inflation index, it was predicted thatthe actual houshold income […]

Instantly Obtain A Credit Card Online

Thursday, May 29th, 2008

If you have spent any time on the Internet, you have undoubtedly come across various credit card companies, offering you lowest interest rates and best fees, or so they claim. Many credit card companies are ran both online and off. With today’s technology, you can apply for a credit card from the convenience of the company’s website. Although many people have a full understanding of how the entire process works, there are still quite a few that don’t.
Many credit card companies have the ability to instantly, or at least within a couple of minutes, process your application online. Although you are instantly approved, you more than likely cannot shop instantly. You will still need to wait until your new credit card arrives in the mail, before you can begin shopping.
You will have to wait a while longer for your credit card to arrive, although your application may only take […]

The Parable of the Talents

Wednesday, May 28th, 2008

This famous parable that Jesus used has a lot to teach us about our money if we let it.  Below is the parable and a few of my thoughts about it…
Matthew 25:14-30
For it is just like a man about to go on a journey, who called his own slaves and entrusted his possessions to them. “To one he gave five talents, to another, two, and to another, one, each according to his own ability; and he went on his journey.
“Immediately the one who had received the five talents went and traded with them, and gained five more talents. “In the same manner the one who had received the two talents gained two more. “But he who received the one talent went away, and dug a hole in the ground and hid his master’s money.
“Now after a long time the master of those slaves came and settled accounts with them. […]
