If you are like most people, you might be asking yourself, “What can a dentist teach me about business, life and success?” Many think a dentist gets out of dental school, opens his or her practice and goes home rich and happy. The sad reality is this is not at all true. It may have been that way 50 years ago, but today a dentist has the same challenges as any other business owner.
As with any business that is going to succeed, we have to attract and keep customers; know how to market and [...]

Today, I think I figured out another reason why I spend less money than everyone else. It’s not because I waste less money, nor is it because I buy less things. It’s basically because I stretch the use of my dollar.
What do I really mean by that? Well, I realized that every time I feel that something needs to be replaced, I end up using it for another 6 months. I still remember the day before the wedding when my mom was complaining that my pair of pants was just really old!
When I think that something is still usable, I tend to keep using it even though it might not look the newest. I’m not sure where I picked this up, but I’ve found that this single trait has saved me so much money all through life. For example, I am using a laptop [...]

If you’re a homeowner, you may have refinanced your mortgage, or perhaps the recent declines in mortgage interest rates have you thinking about it.
For the first time since 2005, mortgage interest rates have dipped below 6%, triggering a small boom in refinancing. Applications to refinance loans jumped 135% between November 2, 2007, and January 25, 2008, according to the Mortgage Bankers Association.
Depending on your mortgage, refinancing can lower your interest rate, reduce your monthly loan payment, and leave you with additional money to pay down debts and invest for retirement. A lower mortgage rate can translate to significant savings in the long term—if you use those savings wisely.
A chance to revamp your finances
Consider savings from your mortgage refinance a gift that can keep on giving—an opportunity to invest in your future.
“If you’re able to reduce your mortgage cost through refinancing, that gives you the ability to save more for retirement [...]

Virtually everyone who is in debt wishes he or she was in less debt. For the purposes of this article, debt is anything that you pay for with cash or credit during the course of a week or a month. It should not come as a surprise that many consumers simply have no idea where a sizable chunk of their income goes each month. This invisible debt can add up quickly, but it can also be easily identified with a little bit of effort.
There are some financial obligations that are fairly static and remain the same throughout the life of the loan. This might include such things as auto loans or rent payments. Generally speaking, these types of loans have a set payment [...]

The Power of Nice review
I am in the middle of reading The Power of Nice by Linda Kaplan Thaler and Robin Koval. It is labeled a business book, but really is a good book for anyone who needs convincing that “good guys don’t finish last.”
The Power of Nice advocates the Biblical principal of sowing and reaping in business and personal interactions with people and suggests that we should give before trying to receive. The authors show various stories where people who gave out of the kindness of their hearts, often reaped huge rewards from unexpected sources.
It does not appear to be a “Christian” book, but there are clearly Biblical principles spread all throughout the book.
Personally, the book is convicting me of some of my behaviors and I am getting some good ideas of areas that I can improve in. It is always a good thing [...]

I might have gotten a little trigger happy today. My limit orders weren’t hitting, so I reduced a few of them and two hit 30-40 minutes later.
CELG – I sold one April 55 naked put (LQHPK) and received $239.25 after commissions.
DIS – I sold three April 32.50 naked puts (DISPZ) and received $302.75 after commissions.
I think I got both of these ideas from Barron’s. That brings my premiums received this week over $1000 which gives me some cushion should one or two of these finish ITM. AAPL made a big rebound today, which proves (for now) I should have stuck with my original instinct with it and kept my naked put.
I have a few more limits out there, but most of them are far from hitting unless the VIX goes up and those stocks go down. I missed a good opportunity to sell naked calls on VIP to help balance [...]

Many of us in the United States have received our Form W-2s (Tax and Wage Statement) already. Those that haven’t received theirs yet should contact their employer because they are required by law to fill one out for every employee and the deadline to send them out was January 31st.
Usually, the employer will just hand them out to everyone but if you changed jobs, then your former company will mail it to you with its last known address. If you moved and changed jobs recently, then contact your former employer if you are missing a W-2 from them.
This form, which details our wages, tax payments, and taxable income is proof that we’ve paid taxes for the previous tax year that’s withheld by our employer so this is one important piece of document in order for us to receive our refund.
Many of us don’t even check for all the [...]

Does the constant worry of how much debt you owe consume your life? Are you looking at the balances on your credit cards wondering why you are almost over the spending limit? Are minimum payments all you can make? Does living from paycheck to paycheck describe your financial state? Have you considered bankruptcy as your only way out?
Before making any drastic moves in your world of managing finances look at getting some help first with debt consolidation.
You’ve heard the commercials but what is debt consolidation?
Consolidating your debt is simply one way to help get yourself back on track financially and manage your way out of debt. The process usually involves handing over all of your financial information to a debt professional. This debt [...]

We are having so many foreclosures
I just read the following news report…
U.S. home foreclosures jump 90%
Bank seizures of U.S. homes almost doubled in January as property owners failed to make higher payments on adjustable-rate mortgages. RealtyTrac reported repossessions rose 90% last month from the same period a year ago to 45,327.
Total foreclosure filings, which include default and auction notices as well as bank seizures, increased 57%. Defaults among sub-prime borrowers and those unable to meet rising payments on adjustable-rate loans drove foreclosure filings to the highest since August and the second-highest since RealtyTrac started keeping records.
More than 1% of U.S. households were in some stage of foreclosure during 2007.
I can’t help but wonder what the real cause of this “foreclosure crisis” is. I am sure some of these people who got some of these adjustable rate mortgages (ARM’s) just assumed that if the lender was willing to [...]
